VIRGIN MOBILE AND SAMSUNG CANADA DO SOME GOOD WITH THE GALAXY S5

Virgin Mobile Reveals Samsung GALAXY S5 as the next RE*Generation Phone

TORONTO (ONTARIO) May 21, 2014

With an invitation to get a phone that does some good, Virgin Mobile and Samsung Electronics Canada are happy to announce the Samsung GALAXY S5 as the newest RE*Generation phone. Starting today, $15 from the sale of every Samsung GALAXY S5 bought from Virgin Mobile will help at-risk and homeless youth through Virgin Mobile RE*Generation.
Right now there are 225,000 Canadian youth without a job and not in school.1 A startling 35,000 live in emergency shelters, and tonight up to 6,000 youth will sleep on the streets. 2 The cycle of homelessness is extremely difficult to escape without help. With little income or opportunities to work, at-risk youth can’t afford decent, stable accommodations or the basic necessities. This makes it a huge challenge to sustain work or emerge from homelessness, and so the cycle continues. The time to act is now.
“The Virgin Mobile RE*Generation phone program is a great way for our Members to support at-risk and homeless youth,” said Joseph Ottorino, managing director, Virgin Mobile Canada. “Samsung shares our passion for empowering a generation to help its own. We’re glad to be working together to give Virgin Mobile Members the opportunity to raise funds.”
This is the sixth phone in the RE*Generation phone program. Past RE*Generation phones included the Samsung Galaxy Ace II x, Samsung Gravity 3, Samsung Link and Samsung M300. Since its inception in 2008, the program has raised over $1 million to support the lives of at-risk and homeless youth across Canada. Members who’ve already bought a Samsung GALAXY S5 from Virgin Mobile will still be doing some good for at-risk youth, with $15 from their sale retroactively being donated to Virgin Mobile RE*Generation.
“We are very proud to partner with Virgin Mobile and its RE*Generation program for the sixth year in a row,” said Paul Brannen, Senior VP, Enterprise and Mobile Solutions, Samsung Electronics Canada. “Getting Samsung’s newest and most innovative device and at the same time giving back to the community by making a difference in the lives of at-risk and homeless youth are two great reasons to pick up the GALAXY S5 at Virgin Mobile.”
Samsung supports the Virgin Mobile RE*Generation program through Samsung Hope for Children, the company’s philanthropic initiative focused on helping children lead healthier, smarter, and more sustainable lives.
The Samsung GALAXY S5 has a 16MP camera, 16GB of memory and comes packed with Android™ 4.4.2 KitKat®. Be part of the movement by buying the RE*Generation Samsung GALAXY S5 at any Virgin Mobile store or kiosk, or online at www.virginmobile.ca/GS5 or call 1-888-999-2321.
