Frequently asked questions

  • What is happening to the network in Winnipeg?

Starting October 6, 2026, we’re making changes to our network in the Greater Winnipeg Area. We are investing in Manitoba to build a stronger network.

  • What can I expect?

To build a stronger network for the future, we’re building new towers. While we finish setting up and adjusting, some homes near the edges of the city or in deep indoor areas (like basements) might experience temporary signal changes. We’re working hard to fine-tune our coverage in these areas.

  • What can I do to ensure I’m able to make and receive calls/messages?

While we continue to optimize and fine-tune our new network, we recommend contacting our Client Care department. Our team will happily review your account and find the best personalized solutions for your needs.

Additionally, if you have a postpaid plan, we highly recommend enabling Wi-Fi Calling on your mobile device. This is a free feature that allows your phone to use any home or local Wi-Fi connection to make clear calls and send texts – ensuring you stay seamlessly connected, even in hard-to-reach indoor spaces.

Set it up in just a few seconds:

    • iPhone: Go to Settings > Cellular > Wi-Fi Calling and switch it on.
    • Android: Open your phone’s Phone/Dialer app, tap Settings (usually the three dots), and toggle Wi-Fi Calling on.

Important: Wi-Fi Calling is compatible with any high-speed Wi-Fi network; your Wi-Fi or home Internet service does not need to be provided by Virgin Plus to use this feature.

  • Is my coverage within urban Winnipeg changing too?

While we continue to build and fine-tune the new network in Winnipeg, coverage within urban Winnipeg should remain unaffected.

  • Is my coverage on the rural outskirts of the Greater Winnipeg Area changing too?

To build a stronger network for the future, we’re building new towers. While we finish setting up and adjusting, some homes near the edges of the city or in deep indoor areas (like basements) might experience temporary signal changes. We’re working hard to fine-tune our coverage in these areas.

For a view of impacted areas, please see the following map:

  • Is my coverage in other parts of rural Manitoba changing too?

This specific update is only happening inside of Winnipeg. Our coverage across other rural areas in Manitoba remains completely unchanged.

  • Where is the network working best right now?

Our network is up and running in all major, busy areas of Winnipeg. You will continue to have reliable coverage in major shopping centres (like CF Polo Park and St. Vital Centre), hospitals, and stadiums like Canada Life Centre.

  • What if I have absolutely no service and cannot use my phone?

Your experience is our top priority. If you have absolutely no signal, we will review your account and find a solution that works best for you.
